Different Classes, Different Workouts

Anyone familiar with Nu Energy Body Therapy will know that I adore the Pilates style of exercise: elegant, controlled, and precise. I truly believe it is one of the best movement practices for balancing and restoring the body. As such, I offer a range of classes at my studio in Melbourne that incorporate the best of Pilates and complementary exercises.

I have trained in Pilates, Garuda, Chi Ball, and various styles of dance – including 20 years of classical ballet. Thus, my background allows me to choreograph movements and offer blended classes that are fun and interesting, as well as technical and focused. It also allows me to adapt my Melbourne classes to suit individuals so that everyone benefits.

Throughout the year, I change up the class offerings for variety and to allow for client progression. Here are just some of what you can expect to try – and master! – at Nu Energy Body Therapy:

Fundamentals

An ideal class for a beginner or someone returning to Pilates. It builds the foundation work on breathing, technique, terminology and traditional Pilates exercises.

Core & Mobility

A great class for people who lack joint mobility through weakness, instability or deterioration. It is a good class for seniors who may be seeing signs of arthritis or weakness.

Barre

This is about as cardio as we get at the studio – so it’s great for those chasing a burn! Barre focuses predominantly on the hips, legs, and bum. However, we also work the spine, shoulders, arms, and core (tums!). We can get a little bit creative in this class as the movements derive from ballet exercises. Participants are sure to leave the Melbourne studio with an appreciation for the hard work ballet dancers put into training!

Garuda

A balanced blend of Pilates, Yoga, and Dance – Garuda is more movement-based. Everything is controlled, slow and flowing. Expect a slow build and a great workout. You’ll be amazed at how much strength is required to slowly control movements!

Pilates Flow

A unique blend Pilates and Garuda. Using movements from both styles, you get the technical work from Pilates and learn some Garuda moves along the way. I prefer class members to have some solid Pilates understanding before commencing this one so that the class can truly Flow smoothly. This is more of an advanced style of class.

Pilates Circuit

A class with more cardio and resistance-based exercises. We work with both body weight and free weights, plus other small props, so you can step up your workout and add a new challenging element to your exercise.

Chi Ball

This class involves all pre-choreographed moves that follow a certain routine. It has a more holistic feel about it to activate the Chi through the meridians of the body. Chi Ball follows Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) beliefs and concepts. The class incorporates movements from Tai Chi & Qi Gong, Dance, Yoga, Pilates, Feldenkrais Method, and Relaxation Meditation. Currently, this is only offered in my Workshops.

Meridian Stretching

Not just any stretching class! This form of stretching follows the meridian lines in the body. It allows you to stretch and strengthen your body using a resistance and release technique. It can improve organ and body function and restore balance to your body. I integrate some of these stretches into some existing classes, as well as offer a full session in my Workshops.

Meditation & Reiki

I incorporate Meditation into many of my classes, either at the beginning, end, or both. It is a great way to let go of stress and calm the busy brain, focus on the present and allow yourself to just be. Meditation and Reiki principles are included in my Melbourne-based Workshops to a greater extent, allowing participants the ability to ground and heal themselves; a true art form.

Private & Duo Sessions

Whether you want to work on rehabilitation, improve your current Pilates practice or do an Athletic Pilates session, this one is for you! In these sessions, participants get the opportunity to work on the Pilates Apparatus. Weight training is also available as part of the session, depending on client preference.
